The zany New Zealand stars of Flight of the Conchords, a comedy series on HBO, have a new self-titled album that debuted at Number Three on the US Billboard chart. Flight of the Conchords sold 52,000 copies in its first week, beating sales for Ashlee Simpson’s new album Bittersweet World. Album sales success follow a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album, The Distant Future EP, and numerous sold-out live concerts. Flight of the Conchords (the name applies to the HBO comedy series, album and band) is a pop, folk, indie rock and comedy band made up of New Zealanders Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. On the show, the self-deprecating duo calls their band "Formerly New Zeland’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bondo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo" as they try to break into the music industry in New York City. When the show concluded its first season in summer 2007 one of the band’s biggest deals to date was recording music for greeting cards. The band’s catchy, humorous pop songs are features of each half-hour episode, generating a many clips and copy-cat videos on YouTube. The series returns to HBO for a second season in 2008 or 2009.
