The ability to jump higher is a vital part of many athletic events. Many figure that the only team sport that you would really benefit from increasing your vertical or requires you to jump high is basketball. Nevertheless there are a number of sports where jumping high is important, even if there is no jumping at all in the sport! Let me explain: It is essential that you have strong leg muscles to participate in nearly every sport. For example, there might not be much jumping in synchronized swimming, but I'm willing to bet that the participants in that sport have very strong legs! The exercises that you would do to increase your vertical will also help you build strong legs, which are important to have in whatever sport you choose to take part in. The sports that are essential for you to have a good vertical jump are those such as volleyball, track and field (the high jump), and basketball. Now the ability to jump doesn't mean that you will be naturally good at these sports. They require much more than just jumping such as balance, agility, upper body strength, etc. However, as stated before, the exercises you do to build your jumping ability will help you exceed in all sports. Lets take a closer look at how you can benefit from working on your vertical with whatever sport you play. Benefiting From Your vertical In Various Sports The first sport where working to increase your vertical is beneficial is running. All runners know that it is extremely important to have strong legs in addition to good stamina. Having strong legs will help you to get off the line faster and run faster. Although you aren't required to do much jumping, unless it is a hurdles race, the exercises you do to increase your vertical will help to increase your explosiveness, make your legs stronger, and help you to run faster. There are other sports where jumping higher more directly affects your performance, such as football and hockey. It is important as a football or hockey player that you "explode" to get out in front of your defender. A running back will benefit greatly from the ability to jump higher and from doing exercises that will increase his vertical. Jumping over the defensive line to score a touchdown, or turning up the field are just a couple things that a running back can do better by working to increase his vertical. There are many more benefits to increasing your vertical, not all are mentioned here. Get started today by doing some basic exercises and you will be amazed how much better you can be at your sport.
